His vision and passion for helping others achieve their health and fitness goals is his primary objective for Advantage Supplements as a company, and the direction he wants to continue to take.

Today I am going to go over the basics of supplementation for your overall health. No, I’m not talking about bodybuilding supplements such as protein to aid with muscle gain or anything like that. I’m touching over products such as fish oils, multivitamins and a couple of other types that will help with daily functions and contribute to longer lasting health and wellness.

Everyone should try to get their vitamins and minerals from natural food sources, but according to some recent studies only 13% of adults reach the optimal amount of fruits needed daily and only 9% of adults reach the optimal amount of vegetables needed daily. So what’s the perfect solutions for this? A multivitamin. A multivitamin is a guarantee that your body gets the vitamins and minerals it needs. As we age, our nutritional needs increase. Supplementing with a multivitamin can aid with nutritional needs and make your aging process much easier. Boosting your energy levels is another great benefit of taking a multivitamin. B vitamins especially help with increasing your natural energy levels. B Vitamins can also reduce feelings of anxiety and fatigue. Additionally, multivitamins are great for heart health, boosting your immune system, and reducing your risk for cancer among many other benefits.

Since men and women need different nutrients for their bodies many companies make multivitamins catered to gender. Men’s multis tend to contain things like saw palmetto which may support a healthy prostate. Other various blends will contain things to improve testosterone production. Women’s multis are typically focus more on hair, skin and nail health. Some are also Pre-Natal, catered to expecting mothers. Children’s multivitamins are also available. Adolescents is a crucial time for growth and development, and proper nutrition is important during these times of growth.

Fish Oil

Fish oil and a multivitamin should be the foundation of your supplements. These two supplements are going to be the most important for your overall health. Fish oil, as you can imagine, comes from fish. It is actually a fatty acid that is derived from the tissues of oily fish. Fish oils gets most of its attention from researchers because it is high in Omega 3 fatty acids. The two most important of these Omega 3s are EPA and DHA.

The things that fish oils provide for brain health are astounding. It only makes sense when you find out that 60% of the brain is composed of fats. There have been studies showing drastic improvements in people showing ADHD symptoms from simply supplementing with a fish oil. The studies showed a significant improvement in the symptoms of: restlessness, aggressiveness, completing work, and academic performance. Fish oils have also been connected to improvements in Alzheimer’s disease. The essential fatty acids found in fish oil can slow cognitive decline and help prevent brain atrophy in older adults. Not only does it do this, but it can also ease the effects of depression and anxiety.

Alongside a healthy diet and workout regimen, fish oils have been shown to aid with weight loss. Body fat reduction is associated with fish oils, along with better blood flow which leads to a healthier heart.

I’m sure when you think of bacteria you are thinking of them in a negative context, it’s hard not to. You use antibiotics to get rid of harmful bacteria infections, we use soap and cleaning products to get rid of bacteria in our homes, but not all bacteria are considered bad. Probiotics are considered good bacteria due to the fact that they improve the health of your gut. Healthy bacteria actually live longer than unhealthy bacteria and help to get rid of the bad bacteria in the gut. The decrease in bad bacteria will obviously benefit the body. This will boost your immune system and aid with illness and lower rates of inflammation. The most popular foods that you find probiotics in are yogurt, which is partially why yogurt has grown in popularity as a healthy food item.

Glucosamine and Chondroitin

Glucosamine is a natural compound found within the cartilage of your joints. It acts as a joint lubricant and a shock absorbent, which allows you to move around with less joint, bone or muscle pains. The body needs glucosamine for the synthesis of certain proteins and fats that form cartilage, which plays an important role in the construction of our joints, ligaments, and tendons. Supplementing with glucosamine increases the amount of cartilage and fluid around the joints. This aids with preventing breakdown of the joints and reduces pain as well. If you are and athlete or someone who runs or lifts weights, you are putting a lot of pressure on your joints, glucosamine can help. Even if you aren’t an athlete or someone who frequents the gym, if you have joint pain of any kind, glucosamine can also help you, and has been shown to aid with the relief of osteoporosis pain.

Chondroitin, similar to glucosamine is naturally found in the body. Also like glucosamine, chondroitin plays a huge role with the cartilage of your joints. Chondroitin block enzymes that break down the cartilage, absorbs fluid into the cartilage, and actually provides the building blocks for the production of new cartilage. Chondroitin is most known for its effective treatment for osteoarthritis, which is the breakdown and loss of cartilage. Chondroitin is often taken in conjunction with glucosamine in order to effectively repair and dilute pain from the joints.
